Cookies United History
With a $400 loan from his mother, Rocco Vitarelli Sr. opened his family run bakery in a small neighborhood store front in the Bronx, New York.
As Rocco’s reputation for quality cookies spread, the bakery quickly outgrew its Bronx facility and relocated to a larger bakery on the shores of Silver Lake in beautiful Baldwin, New York and Rocco renames the Company: The Silver Lake Bakery.
Silver Lake’s European-born, old-world bakers, perfect their signature classic Italian Rainbow cookie recipe and the Company’s offering of high-quality cookies expands exponentially.
Silver Lake acquires Continental Cookies a regional baker of classic Italian cookies and confections.
Silver Lake constructs a new 140,000 square foot state of the art bakery in Islip, Long Island.
Silver Lake purchases Color a Cookie, a specialty baker of decorated, character cookies and gingerbread kits.
Silver Lake is acquired by United Baking, a leading muffin manufacturer founded by Louis Avignone and Wally “Famous” Amos. Silver Lake is reborn as Cookies United.
